Acute & Chronic Pain Management Clinic Newport

Paul practices a gentle yet effective style of Acupuncture and offers a range of services that may assist with Acute & Chronic Pain Management

Acupuncture

  • Acupuncture sits within the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) health field and has been used for thousands of years. Acupuncture consists of inserting fine needles (about the width of a human hair) into specific points on your skin. The goal is to restore balance and encourage the body to heal itself. Performed by a skilled practitioner – an acupuncturist – acupuncture can be a safe and effective treatment for a range of disorders.

In the most general sense, disease occurs when your Yin & Yang energies are out of balance, which can manifest as disharmony of your organ systems, digestion, hormone production, mental states and a dysfunction of a number of physiological systems. Acupuncture aims to harmonise these interdependent forces in order to ensure your energetic and physiological systems are functioning optimally.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

  • Cosmetic Acupuncture involves inserting specialised acupuncture needles into problem areas of the face in order to stimulate blood flow which increases the flow of nutrients, oxygen and hydration in the area leading to a reduction of fine lines and an improvement in skin tone and quality.

Additionally, the micro-trauma caused by needling increases collagen production by stimulating the body’s own healing response and promoting fibroblast cells to increase the production of collagen and elastin. When the body lays down collagen in the areas of wrinkles it gives the effect of filling them in.

When needling the face for cosmetic enhancement, a number of techniques can be used depending on the client's main cosmetic concerns. In general, the premise of Facial Cosmetic Acupucnture is to promote the circulation of Qi and Blood in order to influence the flow of nutrients and oxygen to the facial soft tissue as well as the removal of metabolic waste.

Cosmetic Acupuncture has a number of mechanisms underlying its effectiveness including balancing Qi, harmonising the Zang Fu (body organ systems), increasing blood flow at the site of needle insertion and increasing muscle tone.

As there are a range of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence the aging process, all Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments include constitutional body TCM acupuncture in order to treat your organism as a whole.

Facial Gua Sha

  • De-stress with relaxing and rejuvenating Cosmetic Facial Gua Sha & Cupping

Tension in facial muscles? Chronically contracted facial muscles can lead to the development of lines and wrinkles. Facial Gua Sha & Cupping can enhance skin health by promoting the flow of blood and lymph as well as addressing fluid accumulation and puffiness.

Contouring, shaping and lifting in a relaxed treatment. These methods are ideal for first-timers who are nervous about needling or as part of a program between blocks of cosmetic needling.

Electro Acupuncture

  • This type of acupuncture treatment is ideal for chronically weak and tight muscles, sports injuries, musculoskeletal pain, and other disorders.

Motor & Trigger Point Acupuncture merges traditional acupuncture principles with contemporary anatomical and neurophysiological understanding of muscle injuries and pain management. This style of Acupuncture is particularly useful in the management of both acute and chronic muscle injures and pain management.

Motor Point Acupuncture involves gently needling specialised points located within the belly of the muscles that conduct motor nerve impulses. Stimulating these points with gentle acupuncture needling or by running a small electric current to the area (aka Electro-acupuncture) can restore muscle function, regulate and improve range of motion and reduce pain whether localised or referred.

  • Initial: $150 (~80mins)

    Standard: $100 (~60mins)

Tui Na (Remedial Massage)

  • Tui Na, a form of Chinese remedial massage, offers numerous benefits as part of a holistic treatment plan. This traditional technique involves various hand movements and manipulation methods to address musculoskeletal issues and promote overall health. Tui Na is particularly effective in relieving pain and tension by targeting specific acupressure points and meridians, which helps improve blood flow and restore balance within the body. The massage techniques used in Tui Na can also enhance flexibility and range of motion by loosening tight muscles and releasing stiffness.

In addition to addressing physical discomfort, Tui Na supports the body’s natural healing processes and boosts the immune system. By improving circulation and promoting the flow of Qi (energy), it helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.

  • Tui Na will be incorporated as part of a holistic treatment plan and prices will be discussed during your appointment.

Cupping & Gua Sha

  • Cupping & Gua Sha are traditional Chinese medicine techniques that offer a range of benefits when used in a holistic treatment plan.

Cupping is particularly effective for relieving musculoskeletal pain by increasing blood flow to affected areas, reducing muscle tension, and promoting relaxation. It also enhances overall circulation, which helps remove stagnant blood and toxins, supporting the body’s natural healing processes. Additionally, cupping can bolster the immune system and reduce inflammation, contributing to improved joint and muscle function. Its calming effects also help lower stress levels and improve mental well-being.

Gua Sha involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool (usually made of jade), which boosts blood circulation and promotes the flow of Qi (energy). This technique is effective in releasing muscle tension, alleviating pain, and improving range of motion. Gua Sha also reduces inflammation and pain by stimulating the immune response and promoting lymphatic drainage, which aids in detoxification.

Together, Cupping & Gua Sha complement each other by enhancing energy flow, and supporting overall well-being. Integrating these therapies into your wellness routine can significantly improve your health, provide relief from various conditions, and promote a sense of vitality.

  • Cupping & Gua Sha are used as an add on in conjunction with other therapies and therefore price varies depending on the treatment strategy.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

  • Chinese Herbal Medicine is a holistic approach that utilises natural substances to promote healing and balance within the body. It is based on the ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which views health as a harmonious balance of body, mind, and spirit.

Herbal treatments consist of various plant-based materials, including roots, bark, flowers, and leaves, that are carefully selected to address specific health concerns or to enhance overall wellbeing. Each herb has unique properties and effects, and they are often combined into formulas tailored to individual needs.

Practitioners conduct a thorough assessment of each patient's condition, taking into account their physical symptoms, emotional state, and lifestyle factors. This personalised approach ensures that the herbal remedies not only target the immediate issues but also support long-term health.

Chinese Herbal Medicine can help with a variety of conditions, including digestive disturbances, respiratory issues, skin problems, and emotional imbalances. With a focus on restoring the body's natural balance, this ancient practice offers a gentle yet powerful alternative or complement to conventional treatments.
